Jefferson Boys Traveling Basketball

Welcome to Jefferson Boys Traveling Basketball

The Jefferson Boys Traveling Basketball Association (JBTBA) exists to provide an opportunity for boys to compete in an environment that emphasizes fundamental basketball skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Winning, although important, is secondary to development and having fun.

Traveling basketball refers to teams organized through a tryout process that compete against similar teams from other communities. Traveling basketball programs typically organized around high school boundaries and often serve as feeder programs for the local high school teams.

JBTBA Registration takes place in Late July though the 1st week of September. A link to register will be sent via email and our website when that opens. Please email JBTBAjaguars.board@gmail.com to be added to our program notification list.

JBTBA Tryouts occur in early September and both days are mandatory, unless an unavoidable situation occurs, and the family notifies the board. JBTBA Teams are organized by grade and skill level. Players must be in school grades 3 through 8 to participate in the JBTBA. Players may compete on A, B or C teams.

Tryouts are back-to-back days on 1 weekend for 1.5 hours per school grade group. After tryouts have concluded, team formation will be made as quickly as the board and coaches can.

JBTBA Teams will begin practicing in early October through early March. Teams practice two nights per week, sometimes 3.

JBTBA Teams will start competing in tournaments starting November and concluding in early March. Teams compete in a minimum of 10 weekend tournaments against other traveling teams from the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. Traditionally tournaments have been 2 days with a minimum of 3 games per weekend. Most not all tournament/associations run 1-day tournaments, where your team would play all their games on either Saturday or Sunday. For 3rd/4th-8th grade. All tournaments are chosen by the board based on previous good experiences and are not more than 40-50 minutes in travel. Most teams will have one tournament where a team stay over is needed.

All JBTBA players, parents and coaches will be held to the guidelines of our handbooks made for a fun, safe and respectable place of learning and competitiveness.

CODE OF CONDUCT

For the 2023-2024 season, all parents, coaches and players will be required to sign a Code of Conduct form prior to the first practice of the season.  Parents, please read through the Player Code of Conduct form with your son in case they may have questions about something they might not understand.

We are joining a lot of associations across the country and state in using these Code of Conducts.  Some associations are predicting a shortage of basketball referees for this upcoming season and some associations may have a hard time finding officials for their tournaments.  Based on surveys and questionnaires, more and more officials are quitting citing "abuse" from parents, coaches and players.

Should you observe any unsportsmanlike behavior from any parent, coach or player (from Jefferson or any other association), please report this to the JBTBA Board immediately.

Code of Conduct Forms, as well as questions regarding the forms, can be sent to JBTBAJaguars.board@gmail.com
